Is this processor fast?

Posted: December 16th, 2009 | Filed under: Laptops & Notebooks | 5 Comments »

I just purchased a Dell Vostro 1500 with 2GB RAM and Windows XP. Is this processor fast?:

Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)

I’m not sure if thats the correct way of pasting it since it had a bunch of numbers in it. On the receipt it looks like this:

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7250 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)

I’m not really computer literate so I don’t mind if this is faster than average…I just want to know if it’ll run ArcGIS, photoshop, MySQL, and other resource demanding programs efficiently without making the laptop hot and slow.

Here are some other specs if it helps:
-160GB hard drive
-128MB graphics card

Thank you in advance!

What is the best laptop for a web developer and graphic artist?

I have to say, I’m Windows loyal. If you’re thinking about suggesting a Mac. Well. Keep that in mind. :)

Beyond that, I absolutely love HP computers, and would like to look to them for the right laptop, but I am open to suggestion.

I detest nvidia GPUs. Every one I’ve had has melted at some point. I would like to go ATI on my graphics card.

Intel or AMD – doesn’t matter. But, I don’t want a “core duo” proccessor. “Dual core” is what I would look for – more power.

I do alot of high end photoshopping and digital painting, as well as some moderately demanding games (not WoW, but not Solitaire either. Think Zuma.).

I’m also on a reletive budget. Less than $1000, let’s say.

Alrighty. Any ideas?

Photoshop makes my laptop slow, solutions?

i’m not good very good with the technical side of computers. but is there something like a memory card i can buy that could, i don’t know, give my laptop an extra boost when i’m running photoshop?

its so slow sometimes i can barely even do anything on photoshop (digital painting mostly)

when photoshop isn’t running the laptop’s genrally okay, and i don’t actually have THAT much stored on it.

its a dell inspiron, with windows vista

i’ve heard somewhere that vista has the ability to use memory from a usb stick to help… would that be a solution?
oh dear sorry for the horrific grammer in that question!

that’s just an example of what happens to my typing when photoshop is running!
lol!!! “undies” guy? i AM getting a better laptop, a macbook pro.

that doesn’t mean i want to chuck this one though, does it? 2 laptops are better than one! ;)

What is laptop gaming like on the new Atom processor chipset?

Posted: November 18th, 2009 | Filed under: Laptops & Notebooks | 2 Comments »

I’m in need of a new laptop, and I’m wanting something fairly light weight and small to replace the 10lb monster Toshiba I’ve had for the last four years. Some of my main interests for this system will be to operate my creative suite for graphics and digital painting from, a mid-level gaming/entertainment system for when on the go and internet.

I’d really like to try to hold a longer battery life because I don’t want to be strapped to a power cable. Which is why I’m curious about this Atom chip set. Can it handle CS2/3? and what are the graphics like with running WoW or SL? And is it possible to get these things in a tablet format for a more natural drawing experience?

Good laptop for artists?

I’m looking into buying a laptop for college (enrolling fall 09). I use Photoshop and a graphics tablet for digital painting.
EXCEPT MACS (which I dislike and are too expensive for better models), what laptop should I consider?
My PC is an HP which is great, but I’m open to other brands, of course.

I’m not looking for specifically state-of-the art like Digital Storm (because the custom built one I’d want is over 1200 dollars), so around 1000 or a bit more, and less would be good.
I don’t want Digital Storm because you usually can’t buy it in payment plans. I can’t buy up front.

Also, I have a Wacom tablet, so there’s no need for a tablet PC.

Laptop buying advice?

Posted: October 17th, 2009 | Filed under: Laptops & Notebooks | 1 Comment »

Hello! Good day to you!

I’m an 18 year old information technology college student who is planning ob buying a laptop. I am having a hard time deciding between these three brands.

*Sony Vaio – VGN-AW390 CTO (http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SYCTOProcess?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&LBomId=8198552921665912555&categoryId=8198552921644576903)

*Apple Macbook pro (http://www.apple.com/getamac/whymac/)

*Hp – HP HDX 16t Premium series or HP Pavilion dv7t series (http://www.shopping.hp.com/series/category/notebooks/dv7t_series/3/computer_store;HHOJSID=zW0jKpPGB8NJczJV4bcFTzP4qyPdvnwy2Dj6vGYGrmdTct3hwT8j!1749297675?jumpid=in_r329_personalization/browse2/home_SDP)

I will be using the laptop for:
1. Programming
2. Digital painting / drawing
3. Digital graphics
4. Animating (2d and 3d)
5. Word processing
6. Watching Movies
7. Playing non hardcore games such as dota and vice city (basically the only 2 games I play occasionally)
8. Listening to music
9. Research
10. Surfing the Internet

I want my laptop to:

1. Have a stylish design (Im an artist so I like visual creativity)
2. be fast
3. have high RAM ( 4gb or 6gb what RAM size would you suggest based on my specifications above?)
4. have a high memory capacity (320gb is enough)
5. Display pictures, videos, graphics, and colors crisp and vibrant. (I make detailed graphics and animations so this is a high priority)
6. Able to establish a safe and fast connection to the internet.
7. protect my data properly
8. have long battery life
9. preferably 15 or 17 inches

Based on the above specifications which laptop between the three mentioned above do you think would best fit my needs?

If you think there is a better laptop that fits my needs aside from the three then please inform me.

Thanks a lot to whoever will respond.
