How to make long hair in photoshop?

Posted: December 27th, 2009 | Filed under: Software | 2 Comments »

I have a moderate amount of experience in photoshop, but i’ve never learned how to create realistic looking hair. I want to take a picture of someone and give them long “elvis hair”. How would i do this? The person I’m editing has short, smooth hair, so i can’t simply clone stamp more hair on. It needs to look bushy and long. Any tips?

How to find people to make video tutorials?

Posted: December 18th, 2009 | Filed under: Software | 4 Comments »

I have started an internet company, and we are looking for competent people to produce video’s for us on how to use various software applications. I am having real problems finding the right people. What are the best sites to advertise on? How can I best get in contact with the right people?

In essence I need to find a good strategy to find people to make the video’s. The rate of pay is on a per video basis with most people averaging about $20 an hour or more. We are having trouble finding people to meet our needs. We have tried approaching people on Youtube / other video sites, but his has proved very inefficient. We did approach people that work for competing websites, but they are asking too much. We are a start-up site, with limited financial resources.

All that is needed is someone with a clear voice, and good knowledge of specific software, and free software and a microphone (found on most webcams). The computer would record the screen, while you give an audio commentary (on how to reconfigure the autocorrect in Microsoft Word (for example)).

Over the next 4-8 weeks are looking to produce 30-100 high quality video tutorials for each of the following subjects:

•Vista,
•Windows XP,
•Excel,
•Outlook,
•Powerpoint,
•Publisher, Photoshop CS,

An audio commentary would be required, and an example of our site content can be found on visiting www.helpvids.info (soon to be www.helpvids.com !).

If you know of anyone that could help please reply to this post or email videos@helpvids.info .

Obviously I am open to other strategies or suggestions for commissioning people on a “work for hire” basis? What are the best sites for me to go on?

Which Linux to install on new laptop? Wanted: simple, straightforward interface

Posted: December 12th, 2009 | Filed under: Software | 5 Comments »

I’m an art photographer who uses computers for simple photo editing (as in Photoshop) as well as the regular stuff like e-mail, Internet and word processing. I also use computers to archive my entire music collection (mp3) and listen to it.

I’ve just purchased my first laptop (a Sony Vaio) and would like to give Linux a try (as the only OS installed). I’m interested in encrypting the whole thing (with something like TrueCrypt). Generally I want to save resources by using a simple, straightforward OS with no silly bells and whistles such as the ridiculous Windows Vista graphics.

I want to spend as little time as possible having to program stuff and as much time as possible getting the task done. The OS should be self-explanatory and user-friendly, but it should also give me some control over how my computer is run.

Which Linux version do you recommend?

Photoshop question?

Does anyone have any tips/tricks to “cartoon-ize” a regular photograph in Photoshop? Any special mix of filters? Thanks!
Hmm, for some reason under ‘Filter,’ ‘Artistic’ is grayed out.

I did this painting of Freddie Mercury on PCS3, how can it not support it’s own file?!

Is there a program that can shrink multiple pictures at once?

Posted: November 27th, 2009 | Filed under: Software | 2 Comments »

So over the years i’ve been taking alot of pictures with my digital camera. I now have over 4,000 pictures on my hard drive adding up to about 6 gigs. Digital cameras these days take pictures that are SO large in size that i’ve found that it’s best to open them up in paint and shrink them down in size a bit and that cuts the file size down a good bit too. Since i have an insane amount of pictures, is there a program out there that will shrink them down in bulk?
