How do I get photos to look like this in Photoshop?

I’m not talking about turning an a coloured picture to monochromatic; I already know how to do that. I can’t quite put my finger on it but there’s something enhanced about Scarlett’s photo above which gives it a unique and appealing visual presence.

I know how to use Photoshop well but I’m by no means an expert. I’m basically looking for ideas/advice/tips on how I can achieve something similar to the above.

Spilled water on Wacom Tablet. Now half does not respond?

Posted: November 30th, 2009 | Filed under: Add-ons | 2 Comments »

I was on Skype with a friend earlier and reached up to get something on my desk without realizing I had a cup full of water there. It fell over and spilled all over my desk, keyboard, and Wacom Bamboo. I dried everything as best I could immediately. The keyboard is fine, but now the entire left half of the Wacom tablet doesn’t communicate with the mouse or stylus. Sweeping motions from right to left stop in the middle of the screen.

I’ve tried using a blow dryer to encourage any water that might have got inside to evaporate, but it hasn’t done any good. I need this to work to finish a digital painting I’m doing for a convention. I don’t have time to order another one. What should I do?

Need picture of an archer?

I’m trying to draw something but I need reference. So I just need a picture of a male archer. MALE!!!! It can’t be a girl. It doesn’t matter if it’s a digital painting or a sketch. Anything would help. I would prefer it if the archer was wearing a tunic. It would also be great if he wasn’t wearing any mask or hood.
Thank you!!!

I’ve got a few days at home and want to do a project?

Posted: November 29th, 2009 | Filed under: Other - Visual Arts | 3 Comments »

I’m not planning on really doing anything for the next couple of days so I need to occupy my time with something productive to keep me busy.
Right now I’m trying to figure out what I’m good at and interested in for college because I’m going to be a senior this year. I’m leaning more in the arts direction, but I don’t know where I can start.
I like graphic design a lot, and want to get into fashion design. What can I do that will help me with skills in that? I have Photoshop and Illustrator CS3. I have all the resources to start a good project but I just need some ideas.
Should I start a website? Or should I work on a portfolio? Any ideas?

help me fulfill my dream?

ok, I really want to go to college to become a graphic designer/ visual communicator and someday be a creative director for an advertising company, perhaps even own my one or work for a magazine, and then someday get enough money to organize a foundation that helps out kids without parents in america and help people who can’t afford to pay their own college education

I am a junior in high school and I kinda feel like I don’t have right now what it takes to get into a design school such as NC state school of arts, or wake forest art school, or NYU, and I would really love to study at any of those schools

but right now I am just sooo stressed and confused, I am trying to figure out my life and trying to see how I can go about realizing my dreams

I would love to get a Nikon d40 and do some photography or perhaps a mac book pro, but right now I don’t have the money to do that, I have been working on photoshop and am getting pretty good at using the program, but however I still feel like I have nothing for an art portfolio, this is why I was wondering if you guys could give me some ideas on what I can do to make a portfolio or what I can use instead of a mac or a nikon d40 so cheaper easier alternatives

any tips or ideas will be very much appreciated, some tips for my long time goals/ dreams would also be helpful, but for now if you have some advice on how I could get a portfolio going without all the resources, that would mean the world to me
Thanks.

guy with the rude comment, trust me I have the grades to get into basically any school in the nation, I’ve already been requested by yale, however, it isn’t for what I want to study- graphic arts

so please don’t answer if you are going to be rude

im an aspiring artist for multiple programs. i sketch and draw very well ( brag brag i know) but im attempting to learn digital painting and Zbrush and want a good tablet for the money price would be around 400 dollars but i just want best quality per dollar i can get. everyone says wacom and i agree they look good but specifically which one is good? the new intuos looks good but is it comfortable to use?

also what size is best i dont mind a msaller one maybe the 9×12 one im concerned with the smaller ones having difficulty tweaking details or needing to zoom in and out very often to be accurate. is the bigger size worth the money upgrade or is it just preference?

thanks

Is there a program that can shrink multiple pictures at once?

Posted: November 27th, 2009 | Filed under: Software | 2 Comments »

So over the years i’ve been taking alot of pictures with my digital camera. I now have over 4,000 pictures on my hard drive adding up to about 6 gigs. Digital cameras these days take pictures that are SO large in size that i’ve found that it’s best to open them up in paint and shrink them down in size a bit and that cuts the file size down a good bit too. Since i have an insane amount of pictures, is there a program out there that will shrink them down in bulk?

Hi, any graphic or multimedia artists or web graphics designer here who can help me? im looking for an eBook and sites, and video tutorials which would help me to learn photoshop from absolute beginner to advanced and expert.

My problem is most of the eBooks that i can find are torrents and a pain to download. are there any free eBooks which can be downloaded directly? Most of the sites that I visited are all to advanced tutorials that i couldnt understand because i have a very little grasp and background of photoshop.

The video tutorials that i found are not for free. I also want to have video tutorials to accompany my learning. even the Flash videos or Quicktime embedded in websites will do. I hope you guys would help me. Im studying Web Development and Design and I think learning Photoshop would be a very great help to my future works.. thanks…
